Week 13-Essay 2-Art
At the beginning of the semester I thought Art was basically anything. Then Professor Glenn told me “Then if art is everything, does that make it nothing?” Then my mind started wondering about all the different possibilities of what art is.
To be frank, to this day I still don’t know but I have a more elaborate explanation than at the beginning of the semester.
Today, instead of thinking that “art is everything” I believe that art is anything that has involved human interaction to create or has had human interference to capture. According to the Oxford Dictionary, art is defined as “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.” I think this definition is a more perfect version of what I intended to say. I believe art can be both beautiful and ugly. Both positive and negative.
I’m an Economics major, and I want to pursue my career in the fashion industry. I won’t be working in the creative field, I will be more incharge of the finances and management. But my dream is to work at Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton or any of the big name brands. If do, then throughout my career I will be surrounded with all sorts of creative minds from all over the world. Every season there will be a new aesthetic, and new theme, and new art created. Art will be everywhere. From the products, to the fashion shows, to the advertisements. Creativity will be everywhere.
I love photography. I even have a blog on Instagram and I want to pursue it even more. I hope to create a public blog out of my account where I share food, music, art, ect. It will kind of be a lifestyle page. I don’t want to be an influencer, but rather someone people follow because they like the aesthetic or vibe. Art makes me a more complete human. I love taking pictures and editing them. It brings me joy.
I think the world can survive without art but it will just be dull. I mean art creates a spark within our soul. It keeps us alive. Without art we will be living in a mundane world where we wont be alive. I heard this saying before that the Earth with art is just eh. Art matters because it adds color and meaningfulness to our daily lives.
I agree that “a great nation deserves great art” because art is ubiquitous. It's in food, clothing, language. It’s basically everything about a culture. So each nation already has great art because it has a culture.
I enjoyed this semester because I got to meet a few people. Even though Zoom University was a great burden to many of us, I enjoyed the Monday classes. It was definitely a stress relieving class that I got to learn a lot from about the world and myself.
