Week 15- Art Activity-Choice
So during quarantine, my cooking skills have improved tremendously. I would always look up new recipes and try them, but with my own twist. If it was something I have never cooked before, I would just use the recipe as a guide.
However, I have always been afraid of baking. I always viewed it as a form of science than cooking. It’s differently much harder because most of the process is not really in your hands. But, I have decided to reach a ground between cooking and baking: PIES.
I believe pies aren't fully considered baking because you have to cook the inside and bake the outside. So It was a good place to start. I decided to bake an apple pie. P.S. This is my very first attempt.
I looked up a recipe on Pinterest and used it as a guide. I made the apple filling and the crust. I let the crust cool in the fridge before I assembled it.

I assembled the bottom of the crust and used a step-by-step picture to achieve the criss-cross effect at the top.
Afterwards, I put it in the oven until it was a golden brown colour.

This was the final outcome. It was absolutely delicious. I topped it off with some Egyptian ‘Mistika’ ice cream.
P.S. I had some videos but Medium cannot support them :(
What I would do differently next time is that I would add some sort of nut with the apple stuffing. It will give off a great texture and will caramelize nicely. I would also test out different patterns with the crust at the top. Try what is best suitable for the pie. I would also try to get normal vanilla ice cream that isn’t too sweet. It will create the perfect balance of sweetness with the pie.
Overall, I believe I did a great job and would definitely try out different pie flavors in the future.
